Ring the Bell for Gender Equality

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March 2019, 65 stock exchanges around the world will join the International Finance Corporation, the United Nations Global Compact, Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative, UN Women, World Federation of Exchanges, and Women in ETFs in the 5th Annual Ring the Bell for Gender Equality events, for raising awareness about the importance of gender equality to both business and sustainable development.

The aim of this global initiative is to have “bells ringing” to draw attention to the critical role business and markets can and must play in closing the gender inequality gap.

Women’s economic empowerment is a key driver of sustainable development and a key corporate sustainability issue. The private sector increasingly recognizes that advancing gender equality throughout business operations and value chains means better talent, higher productivity, more customers, and a stronger bottom line. More businesses are successfully changing their practices, developing public-private partnerships, and investing resources to achieve gender equality and better bottom-line results. Bucharest Stock Exchange also promotes gender diversity on the boards and management of listed companies and aims to ensure accessibility of capital market services to female entrepreneurs of all ages.

Romanian companies who want to play a role in closing the gender inequality gap are invited to look over the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and Sign the WEPs CEO Statement of Support at www.empowerwomen.org.

The Bucharest edition of this event will start at 9:30 AM at Bucharest Stock Exchange Headquarters and a number of prominent female figures, entrepreneurs and personalities from various Romanian and international companies as well as different organizations will join us on March 8. Therefore, with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality to sustainable development and business, we would like to extend to you an invitation to join us to ring the opening bell for this important cause. We believe your presence at this important event could bring further attention to the importance of gender equality and highlight the role the private sector has played in this respect.

Location: Bucharest Stock Exchange, Bd. Carol I nr. 34-36.

The event is open and free of charge, but subject to registration below.
